American Aero Services was the host location for a Fly-in/Drive-In breakfast to help raise funds for South Volusia County Humane Society. Breakfast was awesome and the turn-out was heavy for a morning at the airport. Ramp had plenty of visiting aircraft and everyone was free to wander around the hangars.

A couple of restorations are taking place at American Aero to include the Collings Foundation’s P-51C “Betty Jane” and Hellcat. The Collings Corsair was also in the hangar. The TBM “She’s the Boss” departed the field, after a large plate of pancakes, and was a delight to see run up and taxi out.

Last time, at the hangar, there were 2 PBYs. Only one is on site now and inside the other hangar.

Looking forward to more pancakes and sausage!

Today, we remember D-DAY through Warbirds here in Florida. We are graced with a few that flew missions over Normandy, the Valiant Air Command’s C-47 “Tico Belle” and Kermit Weeks C-47. Salute to the men and women that landed and fought today back in 1944.

The Valiant Air Command will be hosting a fly-in Breakfast on 12 May.

Last year, I traveled to California for a work related project and I was fortunate to attend the Planes of Fame Airshow. This airshow had been on my list to attend and I was finally able to make that happen. The weekend was a cold one for this Florida boy but I came prepared. I even bought a “Sunrise Pass” to get in early. Walking the flightline at 6 am before the sun came up was a sight to behold.

Here are a few pictures from that weekend. I wish I was there this upcoming weekend to see 4 P-38’s and 2 P-47’s fly but I can wish for next year.

My wife, son and I took a road trip to North Carolina and made a side trip to visit Patriot’s Point in Charleston, South Carolina. Before we got there, we had lunch at an awesome restaurant that deserves a shout out. Place is called the Glass Onion and is highly recommended.

At the Patriot’s Point Naval and Maritime Museum, you can self tour the USS Yorktown (CV-10) an Essex Class Carrier, the USS Laffey (DD-724) which is the most decorated World War II era US Destroyer still in existence and the USS Clagamore (SS-343) a Guppy III class submarine. Plan a whole day to be able to tour everything and be ready for some walking. On the Yorktown, you will find aircraft ranging from the WW2 through current.

The ships, aircraft and displays are amazing and informative. Cant wait to go back one day.
